San Diego, CA – April 27, 2009 – Beautiful Zara twirls about the room, captivating her audience with song and dance, ending her performance with a bow to her adoring audience as they stand in ovation. Gifted with multi-faceted talent, from acting, to piano to tap dancing, Zara loves to entertain. Zara is two years old. Her audience is the staff and patients of the hospital that she has called home since she was diagnosed with ALM Leukemia last February. In an effort to support little Zara and raise awareness about Leukemia, IamHypeOnline.com and the San Diego chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is hosting a charitable event on Saturday, May 9, from 7pm to 10pm, at Mangu Restaurant, 503 Fifth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101.
Not only does Zara inspire with her charm, she has the heart of a lion to match. “She is strong… a fighter.” says Collette of her baby girl, who just finished round three of five treatments of chemotherapy. Collette, a single mother from San Diego and Zara’s biggest fan, beams with pride as she describes Zara’s loving nature, blowing kisses to all the other children in her ward. Proceeds from this event will be given to support Collette and Zara, who have recently begun to struggle with the mounting medical bills to care for Zara since her diagnosis. Come support Zara and further the cause to eradicate the disease that affects over 2000 children in the United States annually. Enjoy delectable authentic island Caribbean cuisine from Mangu Restaurant, inspired by the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Cuba. Libations will be graciously hosted by U4Rik Vodka, distilled from the finest grapes of Napa Valley, from 7pm to 8pm, to guest who RSVP by May 8. A suggested donation of $20 will be received at the door. In the spirit of arts and entertainment, the event will be packed with live performances, comedy and the smooth sounds of DJ Hands Off. For more information and to RSVP online, go to www.iamhypeonline.com.
The event producers and sponsors are socially conscious entrepreneurs and businesses committed to the support of charitable causes through multi-media events. As the entertainment industry leans into the turn of the digital revolution, riding the cusp of social and political climate change, Pook Diesel is redefining the role of the modern artist. Labeled the Renaissance MC, he is truly a modern day renaissance man, contributing to a wide variety of performing arts and standing as an activist for community youth.
Pook Diesel was born Paul Lawrence Watson III, in New Haven, CT, in 1974, moving to San Diego at age 15. In accord with the gifted men of the Renaissance, Diesel sought to develop his skills in all areas of knowledge, physical development, social accomplishments and the arts. He attended SDSU for his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and earned his Masters Degree in Human Services from Springfield College.
Pook Diesel’s contributions as a singer, songwriter, actor, television and film producer, is matched only by his advocacy of community outreach. Like da Vinci and Alberti, Diesel holds the philosophy that man is empowered and limitless in his capacities for development. He imparts these principles to youth through his community programs teaching them to embrace knowledge and develop their capacities as fully as possible.
During Diesel’s typical work week you’ll either find him in the edit bay producing for television or recording at home studio for his next hip hop album. Although Diesel’s talent is multi-faceted, his first passion is the music. Influenced by actor/rap artist Mos Def and The Roots’ front man, Black Thought, Diesel is a complete MC who combines real skills, clever wit and a loose, uplifting vibe.
His production credits include TV BET awards, BET Honors, and Hip Hop Documentaries on Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Richard Pryor, and Coretta Scott King. His most recent production work on American Gangster – Season 3 has placed him once again next to long time mentor, producer P Frank Williams. His acting credits include “The Vapors”, “Be Easy” and Christian film “He Who Finds a Wife.”
Currently, Pook Diesel is working on his next album “Mixtape Adventures of Pook Diesel – Arrest The President”.
